On Thursday, Feb. 27, the Mariners baseball team took to the diamond and were victorious over Hoover, 9-5.
“Mar Vista fired up the offense in the first inning, scoring 7 runs,” said Head Coach Bobby Rector. “Diego Garza started the game for the Mariners on the mound. He went three innings, allowing three runs on four hits and striking out three. Alex Guerrero was credited with the victory for Mar Vista. He allowed zero hits and zero runs over three innings, striking out two.”
Mar Vista collected 11 hits on the day. Dante Pacheco and Ryan Lee each managed multiple hits. Pacheco went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the Mariners in hits.
On Saturday, Feb 29, Pacheco would not be denied at the plate, picking up four hits and leading the Mariners to a 15-5 win over Morse.
“An early lead helped propel Mar Vista to victory,” said Rector. “The Mariners scored four runs in the first inning and continued to add on with six runs in the fourth inning. Mar Vista had multiple hits from not only Pacheco, but Austin Lukenbill, Diego Garza, and Brandon Cosio as well.”
Pacheco was also credited with the win after throwing four solid innings, only allowing one earned run, along with four strikeouts.
The Mariners also came away with a win against Southwest, 3-2 on Tuesday, March 3.
Next up for the team is a tournament game versus Sweetwater, Thursday, March 5 at 3 p.m.
