The Mar Vista Mariners opened the 2019-20 season at home vs the Monte Vista Lions. The Mariners fought hard to pull out a 73-62 victory over the Division IV school.

The first quarter was a struggle for both teams with a lot of first game jitters. The Mariners led 13-10 at the end of the quarter. The Mariners pushed their lead out to 9 at the half, leading 34-25. The third quarter was all Mariners; they increased their lead to 19 at the end of three quarters with the score Mar Vista 59 and Monte Vista 40.

There was absolutely no quit in the Monte Vista Lions as they fought tenaciously in the fourth quarter cutting the lead to 9 with just over two minutes left in the ballgame. Your Mariners put the dagger in the Lions winning 73-62.

Freshman Josiah Scott and captain Gabe Schiazza led the Mariners with 17 pts apiece. Josh Dupree had his first double-double of the season scoring 12 points, 10 rebounds and five block shots. Dylan Wolfe fought foul trouble the whole night, and ended with 10 points with limited playing time. Guard Jeffrey Temcho added 9 and guard Pete Flores finished the game with 8.
