“Senior Chris Pardinas was brilliant on the mound on Thursday, March 14, as he threw a no-hitter to lead the Mar Vista Mariners past Hilltop 2-1, in GMC Tournament action,” said head coach Bobby Rector.

“Mar Vista got on the board in the first inning when Isaac Guerrero, a senior, drove in one on a double to right field,” Rector continued. “Junior Diego Garza also got in on the action by driving in Josh Barbato (sophomore) on a one out single in the fourth inning.”

Pardinas was the winning pitcher for Mar Vista Mariners in the game. He surrendered one run on zero hits over seven innings, striking out eight. He also went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Mariners in hits. He earned player of the game.

“Mar Vista played a flawless defensive game as they didn’t commit a single error in the field,” said Rector. This win put Mar Vista at 6-3 on the season.

The next day, the Mariners traveled to the San Diego Cavers home turf and played a high scoring game, but pulled out the win, 18-13.

It was a see-saw game, Mar Vista scoring first, then the Cavers, a tie after the third inning, 4-4. The Cavers roared back with three runs, Mariners scored one, Cavers scored again, and so for until the last inning. At the top of the seventh, the score was 9-7 in San Diego’s favor. The Mariners took over, scoring 11 runs in the seventh inning. the Cavers scored another four runs in the bottom of the inning, but it wasn’t enough to recapture the lead. The Mariners won 18-13. One of the highlights was a home run by senior Damon Thomas and a double by Garza.

“We didn’t play our best game on Friday, but it’s good to know that we can grind out wins, even on our bad days,” said Rector.

The Mariners played at home on Monday, March 18, and took on High Tech San Diego. It was a tight, defensive game with the score 3-2 after the second inning and no other scores for the rest of the game. The Mariners lost that battle, 3-2.

Currently, Mar Vista holds an overall record 7-4 as they prepare for their next game on Saturday, March 23, when they host the Sweetwater Devils from National City at 10:30 a.m. Come cheer on the Mariners.
