Nora Vargas made a surprise appearance at Veteran’s Park in Imperial Beach, June 3, 2021, to discuss the $7.12 billion upcoming county’s budget. However, I am being told it was councilmember Paloma Aguirre that called this meeting together.

The thing about this appearance is that it was only announced 30 minutes prior to the supervisor’s arrival in Imperial Beach and that it went up on the city’s website for 15 minutes before being taken down! Cronies of the supervisor were invited, such as city councilmembers Paloma Aguirre and Matthew Gonzales, even Mayor Serge Dedina’s campaign manager, Josie Hamata was present. There was also a SEIU Labor family present, all wearing matching yellow T-shirts.

Supervisor Vargas obviously did not wish to engage the general constituency of her district and this “below the radar” tactic in only indicative of the total disregard for the citizens and demonstrates a total lack of transparency.
