The Silver Strand Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) concluded its 20th annual Letters to the Troops Project in November. This year, over 1100 letters were contributed by children from Coronado Middle School, Village Elementary, Silver Strand Elementary, Christ Church Day School, Sacred Heart Parish School, and from St. Charles Catholic School in South San Diego, and from high school students enrolled in the Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Course (NJROTC) Programs at both Coronado High School and at Mar Vista High School. The letters addressed to Service Members, expressed each student’s gratitude and support for our Service Members and for their sacrifices for our Country. As in years past, the letters were delivered to Naval Base Coronado’s Public Affairs Office for distribution to Service Men and Women wherever they may be serving. From each of the participating schools two letters were selected to receive a gift certificate from Bay Books in recognition of the authors’ efforts to convey their support to our Service Members. Along with the letters that earned gift certificate awards, several letters from each school were also singled out for Honorable Mention recognition.

The Silver Strand Chapter of MOAA wishes to extend to each student who contributed a letter, a sincere thank you and congratulations for a job well done. We extend our special thanks to each school principal who supported our project, and to the teachers who organized their students to participate in this year’s project and guided the efforts of their student. We recognize that it is through the efforts of our children’s teachers that good citizens are formed and future leaders gain their skill. We applaud your dedication and efforts.
