Robert “Red” Montz was 82 years old and passed away at Coronado Hospital on May 13, 2017, of a lung infection.
Red was a native of Reading, Pennsylvania, where he joined the Navy and served 22 years. The Navy brought him out to the West Coast and he became Imperial Beach resident in 1968. After retiring from the Navy, Red worked for 20 years for Customs. He spent much of his retired time as an active member of the FRA, VFW and the American Legion.
Red is survived by his life partner and wife of 64 years, June; and his three children Robert Montz, Jr. of Imperial Beach, Rosalind (Douglas) Wrobel of Waukegan, Illinois and Steven Montz of Imperial Beach; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son Ronald Montz.
A memorial will be held in his honor on Thursday, June 29, at 1 p.m. at the Fleet Reserve Association #289, 659 Silver Strand Boulevard, Imperial Beach.
