John was born in Coronado where he lived for all but a few of his 65 years. John lived in Brawley, California, for several years during his youth, graduating from Brawley Union High School in 1972.
John inherited the love of sailing at an early age from his father, Charles (Bud) Ingle. He loved nothing more than being on the water accompanied by a good breeze. It was evident from an early age that John was a natural sailor and he soon excelled in the sport. He sailed competitively for many years, participating in regattas throughout the U.S. and Mexico. He made sure to pass on his love of sailing to his sons and nieces, who all participated in the Coronado Yacht Club junior sailing program.
His happiest years were with his devoted wife Theresa (Terri) Ingle whom he married in 2006. She was at his side when he died suddenly of a heart attack.
In addition to his wife, John is survived by his stepson Jorge Rodriquez of Imperial Beach; sisters Laura Ingle of New York, Barbara Smith of Coronado, stepsister Kathy Gray of Fullerton; nieces Molly (James) Ashdown of Brisbane, Australia, Bonnie (Joseph) Conte of Orange County; nephew Alexander Smith of San Diego and so many friends.
John is preceded in death by his first wife Amy Covington Ingle; his beloved son Charles (Charlie) Ingle; his parents Charles Ingle and Helen Ingle Sharp; and his stepfather Joseph (Dick) Sharp. We hope he is sailing the heavens with the many loved ones who were there to welcome him.
A celebration of John’s life will be held at Coronado Yacht Club, 1631 Strand Way, on Sunday, June 3 at 11 a.m.
