John Michael Tolmosoff

Dr. John Michael Tolmosoff ascended peacefully of natural causes on Oct. 5, 2015 at the age of 60 years. John was surrounded by his loving and devoted children Mikial, Leah and Iana Tolmosoff and his partner Shannon Kear.

John was born to Anne Marie Johnson Tolmosoff and Michael John Tolmosoff in Fresno, California on Nov. 1, 1954. He was raised in Fresno and attended the Fresno Adventist Academy and graduated high school from Monterey Bay Academy in Watsonville, Ca. John attended La Sierra University as a Theology Major. In 1977 he made the choice of his lifetime and took a year sabbatical to Hawaii to surf the big waves. Following this experience, John was on a new passionate path. He had become a new John, a free spirit, and understood life more than most.

He graduated from Cleveland Chiropractic College in Los Angeles in 1987 and was licensed in January of 1988 by the California State Board of Chiropractic. He worked with Dr Diaz in San Diego for several years.

John opened his own chiropractic business in 1991 in Imperial Beach. He remained in practice there for 24 years, until his death. He was trained in SOT, BEST and NETWORK techniques.

In 2009, John was the driving force and founding doctor of Silver Strand Spine and Sport, which is cutting edge in multidisciplinary healthcare. A new business model was developed and expanded further and included new business partners, Dr. Ron Emerson and Dr. Ziad Tamimi, MD. Silver Strand Spine and Sport opened and offered new wellness modalities in Integrative Medicine, including chiropractic, physical therapy, pain relief and traditional medicine. John also opened his Thermography practice at this location and was a leader in the field of Thermography. He became an instructor and pioneer in the education certification and the readings and interpretation of Thermographs. He read scans for practices from all over the country. During his 28 year career he has helped thousand of patients and has made a deep impact in the Chiropractic world nationwide.

“Driven” was a word often used to describe John, by those who knew him well. He was driven to take care of his family, have a successful business or be the best surfer he could be. John was well known to be a great athlete. He had a tremendous love for sports and fitness. He had a life-long passion for surf. Surfing was heaven for him. He loved the water and thrived by surfing before he went to the office in the mornings, adding kite surfing and paddle boarding to his routine. He taught these sports to his children and was happiest on family travels with his wife of 26 years, Rochelle, and their children, exploring the United States and Baja, Mexico. John was a terrific family man, taking hands-on care of his children and driving the carpool to school every morning, teaching them inspirational stories in the car along the way. John is well remembered by neighbors, friends and patients for his unique, almost child-like, upbeat personality who seemed able to connect with everyone he met.

He was predeceased by his wife, Rochelle Melby Tolmosoff in 2013. Surviving is his mother, Anne Marie Moore, whom he loved dearly, his three children Mikial, Leah and Iana Tolmosoff, a brother, Jack Michael Tolmosoff, of Fresno, Ca: a sister, Linda Anne Tolmosoff Gervais, of San Luis Obispo, Ca and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
