James “Jimbo” Lee Matthews: April 1, 1954 – February 18, 2013

Jimbo was born at the NAS North Island Hospital on April 1, 1954 to James Abner Matthews, Jr. and Bertha Martinez Matthews. He passed away on February 18, 2013 in Chula Vista and is now with his beloved parents and grandparents. He was a true native and long-time resident of Imperial Beach. His love of family ran very deep, although we did have to often compete with his love of fishing at the IB Pier. We could always find him at the pier waiting to hook “the big one!” For his family, a great light has dimmed in our souls, but his smile will always warm our hearts. Jimbo worked much of his adult life in the concrete and marine industries in and around San Diego.

Jimbo is survived by his beautiful, loving daughter Roxanne Rae Matthews of Chula Vista. He also leaves behind his four sisters: Wynter Rayne of Beaverton, Oregon; Dottee (Wes) Odom of Saratoga Springs, Utah; Jeannie (Bob) Taylor of Holly Springs, North Carolina; and Francie (Stan) Snyder of Cedar City, Utah.

There will be a celebration of his life on March 9 at 2 p.m. in the picnic area of the J Street Marina in Chula Vista. Look for the white balloons.
