Sandcastle City In Imperial Beach ...

Renowned local sandcastle sculpture group, I.B. Posse, creates the largest ever sandcastle built in Imperial Beach for Sandcastle City this week. It is in place of the Sun and Sea Festival in the wake of the ongoing pandemic. Using about 60 tons of sand, this is the most ambitious design I.B. Posse has tackled in their nearly four decades of sandcastle creation; a monument rises to about 20 feet in the air at its highest point and spans about 30-40 feet across the sand in front of the Imperial Beach Pier. The group used the theme of “Sandcastle City” to create a design that pays homage to Imperial Beach and San Diego, using landmarks and cornerstones of the surrounding communities for inspiration that include the downtown skyline, the bridge, a surfer, and local sea creatures. Members of I.B. Posse have been working from 6 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. since last Sunday, Aug.15, to complete this impressive masterpiece by Wednesday evening, Aug. 18, for the community to enjoy through August 22.
