A gathering will take place on Saturday, June 22, at 11 a.m. to rededicate the Sellers-Keever Outdoor Educational Activity Center and unveil the new plaque featuring Jonathan Sellers and Charlie Keever at San Diego Bay National Wildlife Refuge.

The Sellers-Keever Outdoor Educational Activity Center was planned, designed, funded, and constructed by the County of San Diego Department of Parks and Recreation. In 2012, this special area was dedicated on San Diego Bay National Wildlife Refuge in remembrance of these boys, Jonathan Sellers and Charlie Keever, and to provide an outdoor classroom for local school children.

“The Outdoor Educational Activity Center is so important to us because it is a beautiful memorial for Jonathan and Charlie,” said Milena Phillips, Jonathan’s mother.

“It’s a place where kids come to learn about nature and the delicate balance of life. We come here and sense the boys dancing in the breeze… I know they are happy.”

Installation of the new remembrance plaque will take place at the northern end of 13th Street, (walk to refuge trails). County of San Diego Supervisor Greg Cox and City of Imperial Beach Mayor Serge Dedina will be on hand at the rededication of the Sellers-Keever Outdoor Educational Activity Center and the new plaque.

The mission of the Jonathan Sellers and Charlie Keever Foundation is to promote the safety and well-being of children through education in preventing child abduction and exploitation and provide support for families who’ve lost a loved one at the hands of another.
