Here is a sneak peak at the upcoming art installation in the Imperial Beach Arts Park. Created by Endangered Concepts (ecoartists.org), this lamp post sculpture is made from collected plastic waste found on the beach and in our communities.

Encapsulating this plastic in metal and concrete, artist Gabe Dice shows the life cycle of an endangered coastal bird species, the Light-footed Ridgway’s Rail. The sculpture is a solar-powered lamp which will provide light in Art Park. The Ridgway’s Rail sculpture lamp is made possible through the collaboration of the Imperial Beach Arts Bureau and the funding of the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition.

Dedication of the sculptural lamp will be at noon on Friday, Feb. 26, at Art Park. Attendees are encouraged by the artist to bring succulent clippings to be planted at the base of the lamp.

A second lamp is being prepared and needs funding in order to complete and install. Contributions can be made on the Imperial Beach Arts Bureau website (http://ibartsbureau.com/).
