The Coronado Chamber of Commerce will be honoring our local Military Kids at this year’s Salute to the Military. The Chamber, in partnership with Hilton Worldwide, invites residents and local businesses to consider becoming an event sponsor for the Aug. 21 event held at the Hotel del Coronado’s newly renovated Windsor Lawn.
Since 1985, the Coronado Chamber of Commerce has hosted this black-tie affair, giving Coronado residents and surrounding business communities an opportunity to show their appreciation for local military members. The 2021 goal is to host 100 active duty couples for a night under the stars.
Military Ball Committee Chairman Mike Woiwode says, “In a city where everyone either is or knows a military kid, it is a great thing to witness our active duty experiencing a night out like no other, and an honor to be able to share it with them.”
“This is a unique event, providing local businesses the opportunity to recognize our military kids, who are strong, resilient, and adaptable. They are bright and helpful and fiercely patriotic,” said Sue Gillingham, Executive Director of the Chamber. “We always have an incredible showing of support from Coronado, but we’re especially excited to honor the kids this year, and we know everyone is too.”
There is still the opportunity for you or your company to sponsor or co-sponsor a table – one great option is sponsoring the Military Spouse table attended by partners of those on deployment ($2,500). Or you could purchase a Host a Hero ticket for $250, knowing that your act of kindness means a service member will be truly spoiled in your name! You can buy a pair of tickets for you and a guest for $500.
The ball is made possible by its generous sponsors: for 2021 the Title Sponsor is Hilton Worldwide, the Cocktail Sponsor is PenFed Credit Union and California American Water is kindly underwriting tables for Veterans. Twenty-four discounted veteran tickets are available for $125 each.
There will also be three awards given: the Capt. Harry T. Jenkins Memorial Award, the VADM James & Sybil Stockdale Community Service Award and the VADM Edward H. Martin Distinguished Community Service Award.
