Cub Scouting is still alive and well in Imperial Beach. Join the Cub Scouts Pack 866 virtual joining night on Tuesday, Sept. 15 at 6 p.m. Find out about the fun adventures Cub Scouts embark upon, where children grow in achievement, citizenship, character, and personal fitness.
Cub Scouts are open to boys and girls from kindergarten through fifth grade and generally meets twice a month. Some of their activities include camping, hiking, archery, fishing, pine wood derby, space derby, raingutter regatta, exploring the outdoors, STEM and more. When the COVID-19 pandemic struck, Scouting as we know it changed. Although Cub Scout Pack 866 might not be hiking or camping these days, they are still meeting virtually. Since they couldn’t be experiencing the “outing” in Scouting, the Pack has been working hard at the academic side. During a virtual awards ceremony, the Pack awarded 54 Adventure completion certificates and recognized five Scouts for completing the advancement requirements for their current rank. In addition, two Scouts completed Math STEM Nova awards.
Pack 866 began the fall with a project for National Grandparents Day where they wrote cards that were delivered the the residents of St. James Plaza. Even with COVID-19 restrictions, the Pack is finding a way to be together and have fun.
Cub Scouts Pack 866 is looking for new friends to join the pack! In a normal year, the new school year is a time to welcome new members that were invited at Back to School Nights or at Scout talks at school assemblies. Unfortunately, that recruiting method is not available this year.
This year Pack 866 has scheduled a virtual sign-up night for Sept. 15 at 6 p.m. We will be playing some games on Zoom, sharing experiences we have had on Scout outings, and answering questions about how our Pack is organized. Zoom meeting information is as follows: meeting ID 825 6556 6517, passcode 495924. For more information, visit scouting.webdamdb.com/bp/#/folder/8354298/108875801 or email email@example.com.
