Almost one year ago Luisa Jimenez opened Amore Makeup Studio Boutique. Tucked in a shopping center on 13th Street, Jimenez has been busy making women and girls look beautiful for special events and parties as well as offering makeup for sale.

Jimenez is a makeup artist that first studied cosmetology in Tijuana. There she also taught for 10 years, while at the same time she owned a salon. Jimenez also spent three years teaching cosmetology in Mexico City. Jimenez has a total of 25 years experience in the field and has lived in Imperial Beach for the past 19 years. While Jimenez owned her salon in Tijuana for 10 years, she grew tired of crossing the border and decided to open a store in her hometown last November.

In addition to make overs Jimenez also does updos, lashes and eyebrows. She sells the products she uses for make overs, in particular a German brand named Kryolan. Kryolan is often used by people who are on TV; it provides great coverage and can even cover tattoos. In addition, Jimenez also offers services like hair extensions, eyebrow shaping with henna tattoos, which last one to 2 weeks. She also does a lash lift which is applied directly on the client’s own lashes and lasts 6 to 8 weeks.

Jimenez is constantly taking courses to learn more about latest techniques and styles of makeup to provide the best for her clients.

In addition to the various makeup lines, Jimenez sells clothing, including jeans from Colombia, embellished shorts, dresses, that vary from fun sundresses to evening gowns, cute t-shirts with appliqués and little girls dresses. If you are going to a special event you can not only get your makeup done by Jimenez but buy your outfit there as well. There are also many gift ideas for children like cute socks and slippers.

The store carries a variety of natural products including natural mascara with avocado oil. The makeup lines available range from the more expensive professional type to the less expensive and anything you can imagine that you need to apply makeup.

Jimenez loves her work and the fact that she can play with makeup and do different things with it. When putting makeup on her clients, she prefers to turn their chair around so they don’t see themselves in the mirror until the very end. Her favorite moment is when she sees her clients post photos of themselves online, which means they are really happy with the results. There have been times when clients have asked her to do her magic with makeup on half of their face to see the difference, and many tell her they feel their face feels and looks more lifted on the side Jimenez worked on.

Kenya Ramiez stopped by the store recently to buy mascara. She lives in Imperial Beach but had never been to the studio and boutique. Someone happened to mention the store and she came over. “It’s good to have a store like this outside of a corporation. It gives the local taste,” she said. Ramirez planned on coming back to buy some t-shirts she liked.

Jimenez loves the business she is in and when she was first married as a 20 year-old, her then husband discouraged her from continuing cosmetology school. However, she was encouraged by her parents and finished school and opened her own salon. “I liked color,” she said of her wish to be a cosmetologist.

Jimenez can do make overs at her studio in the back of the boutique but she also travels to her clients’ homes as needed especially when they request her services for a number of people. At times she offers makeup classes at the store which she announces on Facebook.
