Campaign season is in full swing but, because of COVID-19, campaigning is much different in 2020.

That hasn’t stopped the Imperial Beach Democratic Club from conducting business and endorsing candidates for local office virtually. “We have been meeting monthly via ZOOM and attendance has been excellent.” said Club President, Anna Webb. “We began our endorsement process in June, and it went very smoothly. We continued to vet candidates for local offices and at our August meeting endorsed candidates for several local school boards.”

The Club is also working to get out the vote with the San Diego County Democratic Party GOTEAM. ”Our members are volunteering to phonebank and textbank from the comfort of their homes to help get out the vote,” Webb said. “It is not the same as knocking on doors and meeting people face to face, but it’s important to reach out to voters and encourage them to cast their ballot.”

The following candidates have been endorsed by the Imperial Beach Democratic Club:

San Diego County Supervisor District 1: CA State Senator Ben Hueso

Imperial Beach City Council District 2: Councilman Mark West

Imperial Beach City Council District 4: Matthew Leyba-Gonzales

National City City Council: Jose Rodriguez and Marcus Bush

Chula Vista Elementary School Board: Seat 2, Lucy Ugarte; Seat 4, Kate Bishop

Sweetwater High School Board: Seat 2, Dr. Adrian Arancibia; Seat 4, Nicholas Segura

Lemon Grove School Board: Cheryl Roberton and Yajaira Preciado

Coronado Unified School Board: Whitney Antrim
