Under the guidance of the CA Department of Public Health and San Diego County’s Public Health Officer, all events, programs, meetings, and classes that take place in the Imperial Beach Library are canceled through the end of April.

The County’s Public Health Officer banned mass gatherings and announced social distancing and visiting restrictions countywide to slow the regional spread of novel coronavirus, which causes the disease COVID-19.

However, on March 18, the Imperial Beach Library branch began a new curbside pickup weekdays, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Curbside pickup is easy to use. Residents with County library cards can go to the Library website sdcl.org, use the catalog search to find the books or materials they’re looking for, then place their order right then online, or call the Imperial Beach Library, 619-424-6981 to place their order.

Library staff will then send patrons an email letting them know when their books are ready for them to call ahead and pick them up at the curbside, again, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at the IB Library location, 810 Imperial Beach Boulevard.

While books and other materials can be checked out of the library, the library will not accept any returns at this time.

“Everything that has been checked out will all be due on April 30,” said June Frost, branch manager. “All material previously checked out will have been renewed until April 30, 2020. No material will be accepted back until April 30.”

Another way to use library materials is through e-resources. Patrons can still access all the library’s e-resources around the clock, 24 hours a day, seven days a week at sdcl.org/elibrary. “It is really easy to do,” said Frost. “Just log in [with your library account information] and do it!”

All of the library’s online resources can be accessed at sdcl.org/elibrary. Residents who do not have a library card, can sign up for an Instant Digital Card at https://www.countynewscenter.com/county-library-offers-instant-digital-cards/, and use their mobile phone number as their library card. To download the Libby app, San Diego County residents can go to sdEbooks.org. Library patrons can even order books and materials that are available at any of the County’s 33 branch libraries and have them delivered to their own Imperial Beach Branch Library for them to pick up.

For more information about the Imperial Beach Library, go to the Library’s sdcl.org or call 619-424-6981.
