Bike Coalition and IBactive challenge South Bay residents to explore Imperial Beach to win prizes. Participants can visit spots around the city to complete challenges September 4-September 21

What better way to celebrate fall than with a scavenger hunt? Bike, walk, skate, roll and explore Imperial Beach, complete challenges and win prizes.

The San Diego County Bike Coalition is bringing back its popular IBactive Scavenger Hunt 2.0 to give Imperial Beach residents a second chance to reconnect with their community. South Bay residents will explore Imperial Beach by biking, skating or walking from Sept. 4 - 21.

The three-week-long scavenger hunt includes tasks, quizzes and challenges for participants to complete for a chance to win prizes. The more challenges completed, the higher the chance of winning prizes.

This is a semi-virtual event for active transportation users to explore their neighborhood and get to know their community. Using the Scavify app to track points and complete tasks, participants will move around Imperial Beach – visiting points of interest and local shops, sharing photos and completing mini challenges to win prizes. Participants who register with Love to Ride San Diego will be eligible for bonus prizes.

Everyone is asked to wear masks and practice social distancing when interacting with others, and tasks and challenges are designed to limit person-to-person interactions. Participating businesses can choose their level of engagement with participants.

The purpose of this event is to encourage active transportation use and to highlight businesses, art and culture in Imperial Beach. Because active transportation allows people to move slowly and parking is not a factor in their access, people are able to experience and see more of what the city has to offer. The Bike Coalition acknowledges that even though riders still need to take safety precautions, including physical distancing, everyone can still ride. Biking challenges like IBactive Scavenger Hunt help the community stay safe and connected.

IBactive Scavenger Hunt is made possible by a partnership between the City of Imperial Beach, Love to Ride, IBactive and the San Diego County Bike Coalition. Participating organizations include: Imperial Beach Arts Bureau, Imperial Beach Historical Society, and Yoga with Shawna.

Businesses and organizations looking to partner for this active transportation scavenger hunt can register for IBactive Scavenger Hunt by Sept. 15.
