Imperial Beach DUI Checkpoint Nets Four Arrests

The Imperial Beach Sheriff’s Substation’s Traffic Division conducted a DUI Sobriety/Driver License checkpoint on Dec. 20, 2019 in the 900 block of Palm Avenue between 8 p.m. and 3 a.m. Checkpoints are placed in locations that have the greatest opportunity for achieving drunk and drugged driving deterrence and provide the greatest safety for deputies and the public.

Checkpoint Results:

898 Vehicles drove through checkpoint with 770 vehicles screened in primary

39 Vehicles sent to secondary

3 DUI – Alcohol suspects arrested, 1 DUI – Drugs suspect arrested

6 Drivers cited for operating a vehicle unlicensed

1 Drivers cited for operating a vehicle while suspended/ revoked

11 Total citations issued

7 Field Sobriety Tests conducted

4 Vehicles towed

The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department will be conducting other DUI/Driver License Checkpoints or DUI Saturation Patrols periodically in our ongoing commitment to lowering deaths and injuries on our streets and highways. The checkpoint was funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, reminding everyone to ‘Report Drunk Drivers – Call 9-1-1’.
